Out There

Out There explores themes of mimicry, exposure, and bodily instability in a world where identity is fluid, fragmented, and mediated by technology. Displayed on a CRT monitor, the work unfolds as a hypnotic loop of distorted human forms, digital grotesques, and ambiguous organic-synthetic entities that seem trapped within the screen.

Its soundtrack oscillates between animalistic-human hybrid sounds and an eerily melodic refrain. The repeated lyrics—Out there. Exposed. Did you uncover the truth? Out there. Mimicking. No faces.—evoke a presence neither fully embodied nor entirely absent, caught in an endless cycle of transformation and collapse.

Through its interplay of music video logic, surveillance aesthetics, digital decay, and sculptural materiality, Out There challenges the viewer’s role as both observer and observed. The CRT’s soft glow and scanlines introduce a temporal dissonance, suggesting figures that belong to a lost future, an analog past, or a malfunctioning present.

This work does not simply depict mimicry—it enacts it. In an age of deepfakes, AI bodies, and post-human anxieties, Out There confronts us with our own unstable reflections. By juxtaposing obsolete technology with a hyper-contemporary crisis of identity, it asks: Who—or what—is mimicking whom?
